The Shelly Company History Charles J. Shelly founded his construction company in 1938. From the start, the Shelly Company focused on surfacing roads to a high standard. The company survived the Depression era through being competitive and, more importantly, performing high-quality work. Then, as now, the Shelly Company excelled because of its outstanding employees and their superior work.
Quality Drives Early Success By the 1950s, the Shelly Company became synonymous with exceptional road construction throughout central Ohio. This reputation was a byproduct not just of size, but also the company’s intense focus on customer service and quality.
Bigger Is Better Shelly made its first of many acquisitions when it bought the larger L. P. Cavett Company of Lockland, Ohio. That acquisition provided inroads for Shelly in both the Cincinnati area and Indiana. The Road More Traveled If you’ve driven anywhere in Ohio, chances are you’ve been on a road that Shelly was involved in constructing. Our 42 asphalt plants make us one of the larger asphalt-producing companies in the nation. Great Roads with Great Care The Shelly Company’s Quality Control Department (QCD) designs and test materials to ensure excellent results, but their jobs extend beyond innovation and excellence. The QCD also ensures the Shelly meets and exceeds environmental and safety regulations. Impressive Growth CRH, plc purchased the Shelly Holding Company in February of 2000. Since the purchase, Shelly has grown significantly through additional acquisitions. Shelly employs about 3,000 employees during the busiest construction months of May through October. Shelly continues to enjoy impressive growth through acquisitions and its outstanding products and services. |
