Warm Mix Asphalt
The Shelly Company introduced its brand of foamed Warm Mix Asphalt to the State of Ohio. Warm Mix Asphalt uses a simple process that mixes water and asphalt cement binder to create microscopic steam bubbles to foam the asphalt cement binder. Specialized injection equipment is used to produce the foaming, much like shaving cream is foamed out of an aerosol can. The foamed binder gives the liquid asphalt the same performance viscosity and volume characteristics but at a lower temperature than traditional hot-mix asphalt. Then it’s stored, transported, placed and compacted using the same procedures used for hot-mix asphalt.
