Shingle Recycling
A valuable element of The Shelly Company’s recycling program is the reuse of two types of waste asphalt shingles. It uses both the manufacturing waste shingle and consumer waste shingles. An estimated 11 million tons of waste shingles are generated annually in the U.S. The processed recycled shingles are blended into the asphalt production, thereby reducing the need for virgin materials. Through the use of recycled shingles, less aggregate needs to be mined, less petroleum-based liquid asphalt is used and precious landfill space is conserved. The hot-mix asphalt produced has the same properties of standard asphalt mixtures, and it is stored, transported and placed using standard procedures.
